General information: Specific surface area measurements of dry samples. Dry samples are placed in sample tubes, weighed, then attached to the equipment (additional drying of the material may be performed under nitrogen stream using the SmartPrep). Liquid nitrogen is added to the assigned open container, which is placed on the rack in the equipment before the measurement is started.
The BET equipment is a Micromeritics Tristar. The equipment is connected to nitrogen and helium and utilizes liquid nitrogen that is filled in an open container. During measurements the liquid nitrogen container is raised by a rack and used to keep the sample tubes at a constant temperature of 77 K. The rack and container are behind a protective plastic cover during measurements.
